11/29-National Geoghraphic

Photo: Swimmer at the top of Victoria Falls

I chose this picture because of it's sheer beauty. I'm a big fan of photography, and all of the pictures I saw on the National Geographic website were gorgeous. It was so hard to pick just one.

I picked this one though, because of the brilliant camera angle. The was the photographer shot it made the water shine directly under the mans feet, whether is was intended or not. The angle also make him more of a silhouette, but still showing some of his features, rather then if the sun was directly behind him, which would make him almost a complete shadow. The BEST thing about the angle though, is not only dose it show how close the man is to the edge, but the vast deepness of the cliff behind him.

I was drawn to this picture because it made me feel so fragile, and small. It's more of an amazed feeling, seeing something that huge and beautiful next to a skinny, frail human. It's extraordinary.

I really love seeing pictures like this, showing something bigger then ourselves, in one quick moment. It's always nice to think more abstractly, whether you're an art major or not, viewing art is always a good time. A lot of people don't understand that you really don't need to adore art to have a valid opinion of it. It's everywhere, and one person could see more art a day then they realize. All you need is your own opinion.

But I feel like this picture shows way more then just a guy in water, near a cliff. It gives way more emotion then that, some I can't decipher, and others that are just to plain to not see. It's strange how simple it looks, yet how complicated it meaning may seem. Not only that, but different people see very different meanings.
